Task Force Southwest

Mission
Task Force Southwest, in full partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational organizations, conducts functionally-based security force assistance through Train-Advise-Assist in order to enable a credible, capable, increasingly sustainable Afghan National Defense and Security Forces capable of preventing terrorist safe havens in southwestern Afghanistan. Task Force Southwest conducts the TAA mission with the 215th ANA Corps and 505th ANP Zone.

Area of Responsibility
Task Force Southwest includes the provinces of Helmand and Nimroz. The Task Force Southwest area of operations shares a portion of the border with Pakistan in Helmand, and portions of the borders with Pakistan and Iran in Nimroz. Currently, there are approximately 1,000 Coalition Forces and 23,000 ANDSF operating in the command’s area of responsibility.
