KABUL AIR WING, Afghanistan - Afghan Air Force (AAF) C-208 air crew members were able to quickly and effectively deliver approximately 900 pounds of supplies via airdrop to Afghan commandos fighting insurgents in Faryab province, June 18.

The mission took place within 20 days of the Afghan Air Force’s first ever emergency combat airdrop, proving the need for this capability and the effectiveness of the Afghan Air Force.

"I am very proud,” said Afghan Air Force Maj. Jawid, Chief of the Mission Planning Cell. "We have been working almost one year on this and now I’m happy we can do the mission ourselves and help our ground troops. We are very happy and we are proud.”

The Afghan Air Force began working closely with international advisors assigned to Train, Advise, and Assist Command-Air in October 2016 to develop this capability. The Afghan Air Force capability to provide supplies to Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) around the country greatly enhances capabilities across the force.

"We help Afghanistan when our soldiers run out of the things that they need,” said Afghan Air Force 1st Lt. Bilal, C-208 and C-130 loadmaster. "We drop from the air and we help them from the air.”
Established in 2015, Resolute Support (RS) is a NATO-led, non-combat mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), who assumed nationwide responsibility for Afghanistan’s security following the conclusion of the previous NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission.  Its purpose is to help the Afghan security forces and institutions develop the capacity to defend Afghanistan and protect its citizens in a sustainable manner.
