Resolute Support deputy commander condemns Taliban attack

KABUL, Afghanistan (Nov. 11, 2016) — An explosive device was detonated near the German Consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif last night, resulting in multiple casualties. A Resolute Support quick reaction force from Train, Advise, Assist Command - North rapidly deployed to the consulate to provide additional security and assist with evacuating consulate staff. All 20 staff members of the German Consulate safely evacuated to Camp Marmal. The attack caused no injuries to consulate staff.

"This attack by the Taliban once again shows that they use violence indiscriminately and without regard for the safety of civilians," said Lt. Gen. Sandy Storrie, deputy commander, Resolute Support. "We condemn this attack and pledge that we will continue our mission to help the Afghan government and the Afghan people achieve peace, security and stability."

Gen. Storrie also praised the work of the Afghan National Police and members of the Resolute Support QRF who responded to this attack.

"I want to personally thank the Afghan National Police and other first responders who, under very difficult circumstances worked to get wounded to hospitals, evacuated staff to safety and provided security at the site of the attack. They did great work and we owe them our gratitude," he said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack.
