Resolute Support Mission Deputy Commander
Lt. Gen. Salvatore Camporeale (ITA)
Italian Army Lieutenant General Salvatore Camporeale was born on the 20th of August 1962 in Barletta. He attended the 162th Class (1980 – 1984) at the Military Academy in
Modena and Turin.
In the ranks of Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel he commanded
tank units from platoon to battalion.
Promoted Colonel in
2004, he was appointed Commander of the 235th Infantry Regiment. In 2005, he was assigned to the Quirinale Palace in Rome as Military
Assistant and Aide de Camp for the Army to the President of Italian Republic, being
very much involved in the meetings of the Supreme Council of Defence. The council is a body set forth by the constitution, chaired
by the President of the Republic and constitutes the permanent institutional
seat in which to hold a multidisciplinary debate and analysis of the problems
related to security and defense.
During the second half
of 2009 he spent a tour of duty with International Security Assistance Force
(ISAF) Regional Command Capital in Kabul as Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) Operations. Promoted Brigadier General, he
was appointed as Commander of the "Ariete” Armoured Brigade. From 2011 to
2013 he was again serving the Italian Army General Staff as Deputy Chief of
Public Information Branch.
Promoted Major General
in July 2014, he was appointed as Commander of the Military Academy, in Modena.
He has been Deputy Commander of the Command Capital in Rome since August 2017
after which, as Lieutenant General, he assumed the post of Deputy Commander of
Resolute Support Mission (Afghanistan) on the 10th of November 2018.
