Brig. Gen. Massimo Biagini (ITA)
Brig. Gen. Massimo Biagini was born in Empoli, Italy.
He joined the Military Academy in 1985 and he got his first assignment as Mountain Troops mortar platoon leader within 3rd Alpini "Susa” Battalion in Pinerolo, near Turin. During this period he took part in several international exercises within the NATO Allied Mobile Force (Land Element) AMF(L) and was deployed on Operation ONUMOZ in Mozambique. In 1993 he moved to San Candido to serve as a rifle company commander in the 6th Alpini Regiment.
In 1999 he returned to the 3rd Alpini Regiment in Pinerolo and was assigned as chief of operations and training; and across this period he served on operations in Bosnia (SFOR), Kossovo (JOINT GUARDIAN) and in Afghanistan (ISAF).
On promotion to lieutenant colonel in 2005, he took the command of Alpini "Susa” Battalion and during this period was deployed with his unit for Operation EUROPEAN ALTHEA in Bosnia.
As staff officer he was assigned to the Army General Staff in Rome from 2002 to 2004 in the Planning Office and from 2006 to 2009 in the Deputy Chief of Staff Office.
In 2009, under the United Nations flag, he served as Joc Director on Operation UNIFIL in the south of Lebanon, Naqoura.
After having served in Lebanon, following his promotion to colonel, from 2009 until 2011, he became the commander of the 2nd Alpini Regiment in Cuneo, within Taurinense Brigade. Across this period, from April to October 2010, he deployed to Afghanistan, within ISAF Regional Command – West, as commander of Task Force North, in Bala Mourghab.
In July 2012, he was assigned to the Italian Embassy in Berlinas as a military attaché. Once he came back from Berlin in August 2015 he was assigned as deputy director at the Post Conflict Operation Study Center.
On July 29, 2016 he was appointed as commanding general of the Mountain Troops ”Taurinense” Alpini Brigade.
Biagini has three degrees, Strategic Science, International Sciences Studies and Economics and Commerce; and two Master Degrees, one in Strategic Military Sciences and the last one in International Strategic Military Studies.
During his career has been awared with several decorations and above all, Gold Army Meritous Crosses and Bronze Army Meritous Crosses.
He is married to Marianne and has two children.
